IncrediMail for Office - Outlook Add-On



Document Overview

This document details IncrediMail for Office - Outlook Add-On (a.k.a - Add-on) technical specifications for system administrators. It offers a product overview, details the changes you can expect when the add-on is installed on your system, describes the type of communication you can expect the Add-on to have with your system and offers you file location specifics.

1 - Product Overview:
The Add-on is meant to augment Outlook with enhanced formatting of the message's HTML and animated "new message" notifications. The Add-on does not collect any personal or private information on the messaging or browsing habits of the user and does not entail any additional security risks. It is not involved in the actual sending and receiving of the messages. When the Add-on is installed, Outlook continues to function as usual.

2 - Expected changes in Outlook environment once The Add-on is installed:

  • Manager Toolbar - In Outlook's main window, the Add-on adds an IncrediMail toolbar and a menu to the graphic user interface. Via the toolbar buttons the user will be able to select the Notifier that will appear when new mail arrives, open the Letter Creator, enter the Online Gallery, Help Center and the Options dialog.




  • 'Compose' window - In the composing message windows ("New Mail", "Reply" or "Forward") the Add-on adds an IncrediMail toolbar, menu and Style Box, which allows users to control the look and feel of the message.




  • Display Message window - The Add-on adds an IncrediMail toolbar, menu and a 'Preview graphic attachments' feature when relevant. When relevant a "New" button will be displayed in order to import new IncrediMail content into Style Box.




  • Style Box - Attached to the 'Compose' window, the Style Box allows users to select the email backgrounds, animations and sounds they want to use in the message.



  • Tray Icon - In the windows tray, an IncrediMail icon appears. This icon is available even when Outlook is closed. This enables periodic checking for arrival of new messages and displays an animated Notifier when new messages arrive. Right clicking on the icon also gives quick access to useful functionality.



    Ways the tray icon checks for new mail:

  • Outlook 2000 IMO: The tray application will load Outlook.exe through automation and will perform a synchronization action.
  • Outlook 2000 CIW: The tray application uses MAPI to check for new messages.
  • Outlook XP: Same as Outlook 2000 IMO.

  • Notifier - An animated character that is meant to notify the user of arrival of new mail. It is possible to select a Notifier or change Notifier options from the tray icon or by selecting the "Notifier" button in the main toolbar.



             


  • IncrediMail menus - A new menu called "IncrediMail" will be added to Outlook's main window and the message windows that offers quick access to IncrediMail functionality.

    3 - Feature Lists
  • Manager Toolbar:

    -Notifier: select the Notifier that you would like to appear when a new message arrives and set Notifier options.
    -Gallery: offers a direct link to the IncrediMail Online Gallery
    -Letter Creator: opens the Letter creation tool that creates Letters or Ecards in IncrediMail format
    -IncrediMail Premium
    -More: offers direct links to the IncrediMail Online Help Center, IncrediMail Gallery, Bonus Pack, Order pages, Letter Creator, Registration Codes and Licenses dialogs, as well as access to the IncrediMail 'Options' dialog.
  • 'Compose' window:



    		•

    - Random: applies a random Letter background from your Style Box to the message.
    - Signature: insert, edit or auto insert the handwritten signature into the message.
    - Emoticons: insert emoticons into the message.
    - Recorder: record a voice message and attach it to the message.
    - 3D Effects: activates or deactivates the 3D animations when sending a message.
    - IncrediMail Premium
    - More: offers a direct link to the IncrediMail Online Help Center, Find in Style Box and activation of the 'Typing Sounds' feature, as well as access to the 'Options' dialog.
  • Display Message window:

    -3D Effects: activates or deactivates the 3D animations when opening the message.
    -IncrediMail Premium
    -More:offers a direct link to the IncrediMail Online Help Center, adds IncrediMail content to the Style Box and opens the Options dialog.
  • Style Box:

       -Letters : select a Letter background for the email message.
       -Animations : select an Animation for the email message.
       -Sounds : select a Sound for the email message.
       -Ecards : select an Ecard background for the email message.

    4 - Communication with IncrediMail Server

    Communication:
    In general, the Add-on does not interfere with how Outlook communicates with the Exchange server or other email servers.

  • Registration:
    Send information as specified in the user registration form to 'www.incredibarvuz1.com' using HTTP port 80. This is done once after the registration process is complete and later if the user information is modified. The maximum size for this information is ~500 Bytes.
  • License Code Activation:
    When activating a purchased license registration code a request is sent and an answer is received from 'www.incredibarvuz1.com' using HTTP port 80. The maximum size for this information is ~500 Bytes.
  • Advertisements:
    Once a day, if online, receive a list of advertisements, animated GIF's and Macromedia Flash files from 'www.incredibarvuz1.com' using HTTP port 80, to display in the advertisement window within the Style Box. The average size for an advertisement file is ~10KB but can range up to about 40KB. The graphic files are cached on the computer. Therefore, once an advertisement has been downloaded it will not be downloaded again. This process only occurs to users using the non-Premium version of the Add-on.
  • Statistics:
    Once a day, if online, statistics such as numbers of clicks on advertisements will be sent to 'www.incredibarvuz1.com' using HTTP port 80. The maximum size for this information is ~500 Bytes.

    5 - Defaults

  • When the Add-on loads for the first time it changes the mail editor type to HTML to enable usage of email backgrounds. If an instance of Outlook.exe is running at the time, the user is asked to restart Outlook. The editor type can be changed back in Outlook Options->Mail Format.
  • Every time Outlook's main window opens, the Add-on will check if Word is the mail editor. If it is, a message box will appear advising the user to allow a change to regular HTML editor. This message can be disabled by checking the "Don't remind me" checkbox.
  • The default timer for checking mail in the tray application is 10 minutes. This option can be modified or disabled in the "Select Notifier" dialog which can be reached by right clicking the tray icon and selecting "Select Notifier…".

    6 - Modules and Processes

    The Add-On is comprised of a COM Add-In, an Exchange Extension and two executables:

  • IMOLApp.exe: The tray icon application that checks for the arrival of new mail.
  • ImNotfy.exe: This executable displays the Notifier animations. ImNotfy.exe is loaded when the Notifier appears on screen and is unloaded when the Notifier is dismissed.
  • IMOLPlg.dll: This is the COM Add-in that provides the main functionality of the Add-on. It is located in: '\IncrediMail\bin'. It can be disabled or removed by selecting: Tools - >Options->Other->Advanced Settings…->COM Add-ins…
  • IMOLExch.dll: The Exchange Extension is used for some of the 'selection' functionality. It can be found in: '\IncrediMail\bin'. Although it is listed in: Tools ->Options->Other->Advanced Settings->Add In Manager, it cannot be manually removed from here. The COM Add-in manages the life span of the Exchange Extension.

    7 - Disabling each item

    All Toolbars - select the View menu (marked in green), choose "Toolbars" and uncheck "IncrediMail" (marked in red) to hide the IncrediMail toolbar in the window.




    Style Box -To open/close the Style Box window adjacent to the message window click on the arrow (marked in red), located on the upper left corner of the Style Box.




    How to remove the advertisement window in the Style Box:
    To remove the advertisement window that appears within the Style Box, a Premium license registration code needs to be activated.

    Tray Icon - To exit the Add-on from the current session, right click on the IncrediMail tray icon and select "Exit" (marked in red). The Add-on will be removed until the next time Outlook runs.




    To stop the Add-on from loading in future sessions, go to : Tools - >Options->Other->Advanced Settings…->COM Add-ins… In the COM Add-Ins list select IncrediMail and click 'Remove' (marked in red).




    Note: In order to use the Add-on again, go to Start -> Programs-> IncrediMail and select 'IncrediMail for Office - Outlook Add-on'

    Notifier - If you want to disable the Notifier feature, select the '' in the Notifier list within the Select Notifier dialog.



    To automatically remove the Add- on:

  • Shutdown Outlook and the IncrediMail tray icon application.

  • Go to Start ->Settings->Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs.

  • Select "IncrediMail for Office" and click on the "Remove" button.


    • To manually uninstall the Add-on:

  • Shutdown Outlook and the IncrediMail tray icon application.
  • Unregister the COM objects by running 'regsvr32.exe /u' on the following dll's in the folder <Installation folder>\bin:
    ImAnim.dll
    ImComUtl.dll
    ImFeat.dll
    ImNotfy.dll
    ImServ.dll
    ImTools.dll
    IMOLPlg.dll
  • Unregister the COM objects by running the following executables with the '/Unregserver' flag:
    ImNotfy.exe /Unregserver
    IMOLApp.exe /Unregserver
  • Delete the following folders: <Installation folder> - for example: C:\Program Files\IncrediMail. <User Profile Local Settings folder>\IM - for example: C:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\Local Settings\IM.
  • Delete the following file: <User Profile Local Settings folder>\ Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat - for example: C:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\extend.dat.
  • Delete the following registry keys:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\IncrediMail
    HKCU\SOFTWARE\IncrediMail
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\IMOLPlugin.OLPluginMain
  • Delete the 'IncrediMail' registry value under the key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

    8 - Incredimail Premium and Letter Creator

    IncrediMail Premium

    The IncrediMail for Office - Outlook Add-on has a Premium version, which further enhances the IncrediMail experience. The following are the elements that will be activated when a license registration code is purchased:
    1) Advertisement-Free - The advertisement window within the Style Box and the tagline at the bottom of out going emails are removed.
    2) Smart Notifier - as an advanced feature for the Notifier, the user is able to display a specific Notifier for any person that the user chooses.
    3) VIP Support - Quality support for Premium members.
    4) Bonus Content - Premium Letters, Notifiers and Animations made especially for Premium Members.

    Letter Creator

    The Letter Creator enables IncrediMail users to design and create their own personalized email Letters and Ecards, which are compatible with the IncrediMail email application. After a 10-day trial, the user will be required to activate a registration code in order to create any additional Letters or Ecards.

    To open the Letter Creator:

  • Right-click on the IncrediMail for Office - Outlook Add-on tray icon.
  • Select "Open Letter Creator" (marked in red).
  • The Letter Creator will open.
